Five Stars!! Pat Ament, a great climber in his own right, proves to be a very good writer as he takes on the life and times of rock climber John Gill. Using some mindboggling photographs of Gill combined with Ament's dead-on prose, we are introduced to the world of 'bouldering'. Most boulder climbers never go more than 20 feet above the ground, they instead are concerned with solving ridiculously hard climbs that are short but brutal in some cases, requiring great strength, tenacity, and explosive climbing moves. How hard can the routes get? I once read a guide book that descrilbed the following climbing move: "place your right foot beside your right ear and pull with both arms" LOL

John Gill possessed the mental toughness and physical strength, partially combining his God-given strength and hard training, to be able to actually do a one-finger pullup on an overhead parallel bar. That capability placed him far beyond most cllimbers. (Don't try that at home) In particular, the high point of the book involves Ament's description of the difficulty of a 30 foot steep vertical spire of rock called 'The Thimble' and Gill's first ascent of it (combined with pictures of the Thimble and the dangerous area below it if one should fall.). It is one great piece of fantastic writing and Gill's ascent set off a sensation within the climbing world. It also helped to validate bouldering as a valid branch of climbing with Gill as the father figure. I've read and re-read that description and it is breathtaking. Ament outdid himself. John Gill's exploits as a climber are AMAZING as the pictures will attest. This book is well worth your time, regardless if you are a climber or not. I own 3 books in this series. The Southern Appalachian, the Virginias, and the Mid-Atlantic States guide. I have found these books to be a great aid in planning hikes, especially 2-3 day backpacking trips. Since most of these hikes are either one-way or round trip (as opposed to circuit hikes) you either need to have two cars or plan on seeing the same sites twice. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but other books have better circuit hikes.

This series IS very informative, not only with regards to the actually hike, but also the history both natural and otherwise of the area you are hiking in.

I have done approx 10 of the 46 hikes in this guide, including both out and back day hikes, as well as 4 day 'thru-hikes' combining 2 or more of these hikes strung together, and this book has been very informative during these hikes. The maps could be a little better, as they are topographical maps with a green line for the trail.. They are adequate, but I've seen better.

All 46 hikes come with a description, a map, an elevation profile, and an itinerary, as well as various other information.

When planning for a hike I do tend to use this book in conjunction with other books, but I usually take this book (or copies of the pages) on the actual hike itself. The fact that the pages are so small allows for easier handling and storage of the laminated pages during the trip.

--The most impressive feature about this thing is that you can actually scroll to verse level and begin audio playback.
--I think that Stephen Johnston is a better Bible narrator than Alexander Scourby on other audio Bible products.

This is a decent book for the beginner that has little experience with land navigation; some of the books in this genre that are offered here are much better, including some for the beginner. I have several land navigation/compass/orienteering books, picked up thinking that I might learn something. I thought I would give this a try, as NOLs Wilderness Medicine book is actually useful. Truth be told, if you have the U.S. Army's Land Navigation FM, you've got the best available, in my opinion. That is to say, if you have solid military land navigation skills, these books won't teach you much of anything new, but they're great for the noncombatants in your life, as they tend to break it down and use words geared to civilian use.Buy NOLS Wilderness Navigation (NOLS Library)!

If you like this sort of book, you'll also like one about the second circumnavigation of the world by bicycle. That journey, taken by two recent Washington University graduates between 1890 and 1893, was also the first on the modern "safety" bike and the first to take the difficult north China route across the Gobi Desert. On the way, they also became the first Americans to climb Mount Ararat. In this book, they describe the Asian leg of their journey, at that time the "longest continuous land journey ever made around the world."

First of all, Targus is aware of the mysterious/magical combination resets and their only suggestion is to cut it off and buy a new lock. This review regards the Defcon CL, the thicker cable security 4 digit combination lock.

This is a DEFECTIVE product that apparently has a design flaw.

The first time it happened, I went through 9700 combinations to find the right one. I'm not doing it again! Fortunately, the lock was not on my laptop. For me, both times, I left the lock with the correct combination (the open position) and when I went to press the button to lock my laptop, it was reset. And the second time, the combination was still 0000 but who knows what it is now.

Cleary, there is a large amount of people with this problem. I had the small, original lock for 3 years and never had a problem but lost the cable so I bought this beefier one but that was a mistake.

If the people from Targus read this, you should refund everyone who has a defective lock or replace it with the original lock.

If the people from Amazon read this, you should stop selling this product. Clearly it is defective and if you're selling this defective product, I should I assume that ALL of the products on your site is defective.

Excellent construction, nice looks, well-designed. It even holds my Sony 18.4" VAIO AW but it requires some strain to get the zippers to close so I wouldn't recommend it to carry computers larger than 17" screen size. It'll surely hold any other laptop quite well.

The security feature of the zippers placed under the shoulder straps towards your back will prevent anyone from stealing anything while you're in a crowded place like a subway train. The case includes two well-sized zippered removable pouches for a power supply and other accessories, four small internal compartments (three stretch neoprene with velcro fasteners and one mesh), and a separate compartment for an MP3 player or whatever with a slit opening for your headphones cable.

One small concern is that the computer compartment is located on the end that faces the wearer, hence your back is always pressing against the computer. This worked good for about 4 weeks, setup was easy no real problems there but now it gets so hot that is locks up and also locks my workgroup that no computer can browse the workgroup until I shut it down. A little fan in the case would help out on this drive but it don't have anything.

I'm a laptop case snob and I'll spend hours, sometimes days, shopping for exactly the right back for each new laptop I buy (about one per year, sometimes more). This is the nicest case I've ever owned, at any price. It's not excessively large as so many cases are; this fits the computer dimensions perfectly. The compartment is thicker than it needs to be for my MacBook Air, but I understand it also fits the regular MacBook. The difference isn't big.

Having a place for every accessory is just what I was looking for. I don't put my iPhone in my computer case, but the iPod pocket is the perfect fit for my portable backup hard drive. Similarly I don't carry the remote with me, but that pocket fits my EV-DO cellular data card perfectly.

If there's one thing I'd change, it's the lack of a business card slot or pocket. This isn't a big deal, I have business card cases.

There are several shortcomings in the book that keep it from being a reliable and useful climbing guide. First, it is too bloody large and heavy to haul around, being printed on heavy paper stock so that the photos are pretty. Second, it was not well proofed, and a book that has three authors should have some luck in catching basic information errors if there were indeed three qualified persons involved. Instead, we believe that the errors in many of the simpler subjects point to the possibility of more grave errors in significant details. A modern and serious trekking or climbing guide would include detailed positional data, including topographic and GPS coordinates. These are generally lacking. There are also some fundamentally silly statements, such as "Bolivia is a relatively safe country." Bolivia? Safe? Perhaps compared to Colombia. But Bolivia is fraught with hazards ranging from generally poor health and hygiene, unsafe tourist accommodations, treacherous public transport, and considerable street crime in the cities, even if you don't accidentally end up in one of the coca-growing regions. (There is also a statement that Peru is relatively safe, so evidently the authors' perception of "relatively safe" is not shared with those from the civilized countries). In the Chilean portion of the book there are considerable errors, including one that describes going "clockwise" as a way to make the John Gardner pass "less of an uphill struggle." Anyone who has climbed this pass will attest that the western side is steeper and more slippery than the east side, so this book's recommendation is quite backward. Another part of the same chapter even seems to contradict this observation, leading us to think perhaps one author was not really talking to another. Similar errors persist throughout the book, along with misleading information, misspelling of Spanish words, internal inconsistencies, and then the absence of essential data that should have been included. There are some great reviews of this book at Amazon. I love canyoneering. The book wasn't expensive through third parties (probably a sign of the poor quality). I decided to get it. It was a mistake. I don't understand why there are any good reviews of it.

With regard to the "how to" part of canyoneering it is a complete waste of time - poor or little information. For example, the author likes to use iodine tablets for water purification and promotes them over a purifier. However, Chlorine Dioxide (e.g., Aquamira) is more effective, leaves no taste, and is also lightweight - it isn't mentioned as a far superior alternative. Polyester isn't mentioned for clothing but polypropylene is. The book was published in 1999. These are just two of numerous such examples. Maybe the author hiked these canyons when he was a kid. This doesn't belong in a 1999 book.

With regard to the history, geology, etc. It is just all over the place with serial lists of factoids arrange without organization. As an example, the page on the geology of Buckskin Gulch and Paria Canyon has four paragraphs. The first doesn't mention either canyon. The second mentions Paria along with various other canyons as having a "dark side" in the second to last sentence (nothing to do with geology, just that they are prone to flash flooding). The third short paragraph is about slot canyons generally and doesn't mention either canyon. The fourth finally has something on Paria and Buckskin geology - the geological formations found in the area - so impressive.

I've owned this drive for about a year now, and I'm about to throw it in the trash, where it belongs.

I'm using it with Windows Vista with SP1. About once a day, the drive goes into overdrive mode. The fan spins up to full speed for about 15 minutes, then the drive shuts down (presumably from overheating).

The strange thing is that the "overdrive" mode starts even when the drive isn't being accessed particularly. It just decides it needs to cool down, and the noisy fan fights a losing fight to cool the dumb thing off.

I updated the firmware. That didn't help.

Steer clear. There are plenty of other low-cost RAID solutions that work.

What could be simpler than securing your laptop with a cable lock? I bought this product about a year ago and am still trying to figure out how to get it to work. I am able to 'lock' and 'unlock' the unit easily by itself, but it just will not lock when I insert it into the slot on my laptop. The pin looks non-standard when compared to some of the cable locks I have seen before, and does not turn when inside the slot. I bought this book after buying EJs Strokes book (also recommended) and was expecting a book which covered how to get fit to paddle and strengthen injury prone muscle groups. The first thing that struck me was the similarity to the playboaters handbook, however after reading the whole book I can say that it is different enough for me to recommend this over Ken Whiting's book.

The first section covers the attitude you need to learn moves and win rodeos. I had never seen this anywhere else and anyone who is serious about their boating will find this section helpful.

The middle section includes all the modern moves. EJ goes through his usual Body, Boat and paddle breakdown which helps a lot. The photos are spectacular (although missing on some of the harder moves).

The final section was the section I bought the book for and was discouraged to find that it was only a couple of pages long. However it still managed to contain everything I was looking for.

I have up to volume 45 of this manhwa in Korean. There are some people saying that there are too many characters in this manhwa, but just wait until a few more volumes and there'll be a LOT more! LOLz ;D This Korean manhwa is a bit different than your avg. manga in which there are designated group of main characters. In this manhwa, the main characters are Han Bi Kwang and Hwa Rin; there are, of course, some other characters that reappear throughout 45 volumes.
The story line and the content is has more sexual stuff but also a LOT more DEPTH than something like Naruto or Inuyasha. The story line as well as the characters are pretty complex like an epic. Han Bi-Kwang (in Korean, the "last" name comes first, so it sounds better as Han Bi-Kwang than Bi-Kwang Han) is not a simple character. Yes, he is pretty cowardly, perverted, selfish, but also witty, loyal to Hwa Rin, and extremely talented in martial arts (which is the reason why the "old man" chose him to be his student).
The main construct of the storyline is the "Good" vs. "Evil". The society Han Bi-Kwang is associated with is called SaPa (in Korean, which means evil/dark society), and Hwa Rin's society is MyoungPa (which means the righteous society). The manhwa depicts how society labels people and exhibits prejudice against Bi-Kwang, just because his mentor (the "old man") is the leader of SaPa. Ironically, not everyone in the MyoungPa are righteous, but plots conspiracies under the pretext of justice. Of course, there are evil people in the SaPa; for example, Bi-Kwangs 3rd and 4th martial brothers. However, even the 3rd martial brother, who at first seems like the devil incarnate, has a history/reason of becoming bitter and violent.
Despite Bi-Kwang and Hwa Rin's opposite societies, the two remain loyal to each other after quite a few ordeals. Bi-Kwang instantly falls in love with her, but Hwa Rin, who is at first in love with her martial brother, slowly feels love towards Bi Kwang and even jealousy towards another female character later in the story.
The story is pretty complicated and challenges the standards of good and evil, and if one can truly set these kinds of standards. Bi-Kwang, unlike your common comic book heroes, has soooooooo~ many flaws, but when it comes down to life and death situations, he remains fiercely loyal especially for Hwa Rin.
The story itself is good, but the manhwa itself is very funny! I have read all the 45 volumes more than 10x, and I still laugh my arse off when reading this! Also, the art becomes exceptionally breath-taking after a few volumes. Again, though, I recommend this manhwa for adults, not for children due to the complex story + characters and the sexual content. It even states "18+" on the back cover (although I'm not sure if they say this on the English version).
All in all, this is one comic that is DEFINATELY worth reading and by far my FAVORITE!! Buy The Ruler of the Land Volume 2!

Be sure to go to Western Digital website and get the Firmware update and Drive Manager. After installing those this drive should be stable. Like other reviewers I was having hangs especially with iTunes. Also it seems that some widgets may have been creating conflicts. But that doesn't happen after the updates.
