Shop For The Second Confession: A Nero Wolfe Mystery (Audio Editions)

Once again Wolfe receives a phone call from the mysterious Arnold Zeck, warning him that he's getting too close with an unwanted investigation. On this occasion, Wolfe is involved in a request from a leading industrialist to investigate the background of his daughter's current suitor. When Wolfe refuses to back down, Zeck backs up his warning with violence that hits Nero where it hurts...

Communists, orchids and a manor-house mystery dropped on its head. This is one of Stout's stronger Wolfe novels on its own, and also makes a powerful second punch in his Zeck trilogy of books. I've seen quite a bit of commentary that criticizes what they perceive as Stout's anti-Communist agenda in the book. All I can say to that is "read it again". While not a fan of Communists, Wolfe and Archie are not friends to people spouting off about the red menace either. Mickey Spillane he isn't, thank goodness. Consider this a measured glance at the politics of the era by a writer who was trying to show the issues from a position of (relative) neutrality. Note his nod to the middle way with the treatment of the Paul Emerson character.

The Science Of Getting Rich: 3 CD Audio Book plus MusiVation TM Mind Technology Immediately

I have the book and I have this item, too. I'll admit I didn't get a chance to read the book, but I have listened to this cd for awhile, now. It's great for me to listen to it, while I'm doing computer work and such. I'll admit that I didn't 'get it' until listening to it for a couple of times. Also, it helps that one understands M.B.'s accent. It adds a certain something, I think. Anyway, I'm glad that it's on this audio format. Because it's easier to listen to this and do other things. I'm a bookworm, but it would be a tad difficult if I tried to read and do ther tasks at the same time, etc. All in all, I'm very glad that I purchased this item and I highly recommend it. Prosperity and abundance to one and all. Thank you. :o)Get more detail about The Science Of Getting Rich: 3 CD Audio Book plus MusiVation TM Mind Technology.

The Bunnicula Collection: Books 1-3: #1: Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery; #2: Howliday Inn; #3: The Celery Stalks at Midnight Decide Now

...cula.

Long before we took a stab at this series last summer, I'd heard about Bunnicula. Unfortunately, I'd foolishly discounted the books about a bunny that looked like Dracula as unappealing. Finally, desperate for in-the-car summer entertainment for elementary-school-aged bookworms, I picked up The Bunnicula Collection, a Book on CD version containing the first three titles in the series and gave them a try. They turned out to be a smashing success.

The first book, Bunnicula A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery goes something like this: Chester the cat and Howard the dog are shocked to learn what their family, the Monroes, takes home one night from the theater: a bunny that looks suspiciously like a vampire. Although the human family members quickly acclimate to the presence of the new pet, Chester and Howard, after noticing carrots, lettuce and tomatoes gone white, feel something fishy is going on and set out to solve the mystery. Howliday Inn, the second story, takes place at the kennel where the three pets are left for boarding during a family holiday. The third, The Celery Stalks at Midnight concerns strange behavior on the part of the Monroe boys and the silly antics of an additional character.

Bunnicula, recommended for age seven and up, is a humorous, captivating series about the interactions between three well-thought-out, sometimes suspicious, furry characters and their humans. At the end of the CD, author James Howe explains its origins, and gives credit his coauthor and wife, Deborah, who died before her time of cancer. The only disappointing thing about Bunnicula is the difficulty of obtaining successive books in the series read by Victor Garber, as other authors that have performed the stories aren't nearly as good. Having just finished reading The Celery Stalks at Midnight, the experience wasn't nearly as enjoyable as listening to Victor Garber's five-star reading performance. Note that two additional sets are available [...] books 4 & 5 and books 6 & 7. Only the price ($38 per set) has prevented me from picking them up. Also good: Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat by Lynne Jonell and The Story of Edgar Tulane by Kate DiCamillo and, for adults, Watership Down by Richard Adams.Get more detail about The Bunnicula Collection: Books 1-3: #1: Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery; #2: Howliday Inn; #3: The Celery Stalks at Midnight.

Anthony Robbins Personal Power: A 30 Day Program (24 Audio Cassettes) Right now

I got the Personal Power Program through ebay after seeing Tony's infomercial. This is MUCH more than motivation, huggy-touchy-feely type stuff. If you want fluff and hot air, this isn't it.

If you want meat and potatoes of how to run your brain, how to direct for energy and effort. This is for you. Tony' program shows you how to control your brain. I have some high goals in life and instead of working my butt off to achieve them and then feel good afterwards. I have a GREAT TIME achieving them. Not just at the finish line but DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

If you know what needs to get done but can't seem to find the motivation to do them on a regular basis, then this is for you. Can't follow through? Seem to run out of steam before you get to the finish line? Putting things off? Want to enjoy the process of accomplishing things? Want to get rid of bad habits? Want to get some new habits that will empower you?

Those are the things I used this program for. Like I said before this isn't hype or a 'just think positive' type of stuff.

There has been some controversy about Tony....I don't know about that stuff. All I know is that by using his techniques life has been abundant and FUN !!!!!!!Get more detail about Anthony Robbins Personal Power: A 30 Day Program (24 Audio Cassettes).

Lowest Price Sole Survivor

I picked up the audio version. I enjoy Dean Koontz's books. This one however was...difficult to rate. I would like to give it a 3.5 He is a talented writer, exceptional storyteller, but this story got caught up in too many metaphors, similes and poetics. I hit fast forward a couple of times because I couldn't handle the speakers miserable drawn out recounting of "everything" he encountered. His inflection was the same throughout the entire story. It isn't really a complex story line, just wordy. I couldn't get myself connected with his character, Joe. I love quirky storylines and plots, but couldn't get interested in this one. I can understand why others rated it higher though. I think Koontz has a way of connecting to people. Maybe not to the same folks all the time. I have friends that I would recommend this book to (not the audio version). I have other friends that I know wouldn't be able to get into the story. To each his own. Save The Third Option

"The Third Option," published in 2000, is the third book in Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series and, while the book still holds up well as a political thriller, today's readers will almost certainly think about how much has happened in the decade following its publication. Mitch is in Germany on what he plans as his last counterterrorism mission: taking out a wealthy German industrialist before the man can supply Saddam Hussein's scientists with the material needed for Iraq to produce nuclear weapons to benefit those waging war on the West.

One more kill, and Vince plans to walk away from his old life and into the arms of the woman he plans to spend the rest of his life with - but, in Vince's business, things have a way of getting complicated. Vince Rapp is not used to failure but this time, despite his best efforts, the mission goes badly and he finds himself on the run in Europe, wondering who set-him up and why they did it. All he knows is that someone is going to pay the ultimate price for what they did to him - even if the order came from inside the Agency.

When he finally surfaces to confront his bosses in Washington D.C. about their knowledge of what happened in Germany, Rapp becomes convinced that CIA Director Stansfield and Irene Kennedy, Director of the Counterterrorism Center, are as much in the dark as he is. Director Stansfield, Rapp learns, is dying of cancer and Stansfield strongly believes that Irene Kennedy is the only choice to succeed him. However, some powerful government people disagree with Stansfield and they considered Rapp and his mission to be expendable if the ensuing embarrassment would keep Kennedy from the nomination.

"The Third Option" is a first rate thriller throughout but I was disappointed in its open-ended finish. It is obvious that the fourth book of the Mitch Rapp series picks up exactly where this third book ends - and that might have been more acceptable back in 2000 when there were only three books in the series. But now there are ten of them, and the earlier books can be difficult to find in libraries and bookstores, so it might be a while before I find out how book three's chief villain is finally brought to justice. Bummer.Get more detail about The Third Option.

Cheapest French for Children (Book + Audio CD) (Language for Children Series)

our kids aged 5 and 9 are doing very well with this book and CD.
The older one can read and is getting familiar with the reading part, but both of them love to sing out the songs. The songs and conversations full of humor are what makes this CD tick - the CD can even be played in car just like any other music CD.

The CD is very high quality and real fun - (not boring like most language courses that assume that you are going on a vacation and need to say passport, customs, hotel etc. English is good enough for that anywhere in the world :)

This book/CD is good for the adults in the family also. I am finally able to sound out the French rrr sound!

Cheap Transfer of Power

I had not read Vince Flynn before, but based on this book he is now one I will continue reading. In Transfer of Power he creates a well crafted thriller.

Through some things that are a concern to many, donations, terrorists are able to gain access and control The White House which causes the President to be sheltered and the Vice President to assume control. The siege continues and the the threats escalate as demands are made.

And during the process Flynn works in many charactors and personalities that are credible and interesting - in other words he does not rely solely on a great concept to create the story. He can write and writes well.

I consider him now up there with the best and the charactor of Mitch Rapp is one that takes his place among the other great protagonists in this genre.Get more detail about Transfer of Power.

Buying The Janson Directive

I read the Bourne Identity awhile ago and enjoyed it, this book cemented my fandom for Robert Ludlum. While I only gave this novel 3 out of 5 stars, there are reasons.

This is a taut thriller that grabbed and held on to my interest for the first 400 or so pages, then it began to wane. At this point I did a little research, this novel was not finished by Ludlum, he passed away in 2001 and this was the first of his books to be "Ghost Finished", I'll chalk up the somewhat uninspired ending to the ghost writer.

More about the book. It is very "running man" The protagonist, Janson, is a sort of super spook, think Jason Bourne without all the memory loss, who is given a mission to save a billionaire philanthropist devoted to world peace. Janson assembles a crack team who go in to a impossible mission and succeed, only to have it all unravel at the end. Then Janson is blamed for the mistake and he traipses all over the world hunting down clues until he finds the ultimate answer, a conspiracy that would take down the entire free world. It is very well written and the characters are enjoyable, my favorite is the Russian money launderer, too bad Ludlum cannot give these characters any more adventures.

This was a spin away from the normal Deveraux style. I was surprised and pleased by the skill in which Ms. Deveraux brought the criminal element into the novel. Purchase American Accent Training (Book and Audio CD, 2nd Edition)

This book is well written and gives you motivation to learn. But:
- the author speaks too fast - not that it's hard to understand, but we learn better if we start slowly (same for music). My mother tongue is french, and I speak all the time way too fast. To my french friends: this is not going to help.
- the book starts with intonation (also a great problem for french people) and to my point of view, it should be more systematic, starting with vowels in detail. Anyway, the part with the table and vowels was missing on the CD, I had to return it twice.
I ended up by buying "Mastering the American Accent" (Lisa Mojsin). I made a great progress already after 1 week. Good book for french students (on devrait commencer ca dès l'école, notre accent est toujours une catastrophe, mais ouf, les anglophones trouvent ca sexy ;-).Get more detail about American Accent Training (Book and Audio CD, 2nd Edition).

Shop For Tom Clancy's Op Center: Balance of Power (Tom Clancy's Op-Center)

I can see why the Spainards hate this book. I have never been to Spain and besides Medieval history and Franco of course I don't know much about the nation beyond the norm. However, the idea of Spain turning into genocidal Balkans is just silly to me. Yes it happened in the 1930's but many things happened in the 1930's a time of insanity and hate.

Also the pyschobabble was just plain annoying to me. "She was there when Martha was killed, the guilt is going to put her into shock and paralize her!" Right and that is why whole armies stop fighting when they lose comrades. Stupid and not even close to human reality and just plain annoying to read.

I will stay away from Clancy and the techno-thriller crap. Bring back some good old cold war novels those were his master pieces. This sucks will not bother picking anymore up when I see them.Get more detail about Tom Clancy's Op Center: Balance of Power (Tom Clancy's Op-Center).

Beowulf: The Complete Story: A Drama (an audio book) Top Quality

I've read, studied, and quoted Beowulf, but I had never heard it done such a compelling fashion. The language is stirring, and the sound effects are realistic. Simple Genius [UNABRIDGED CD] (Audiobook) This instant

Just finished reading _Simple Genius_ (2007) by David Baldacci, whose work I usually really enjoy, and I was so disappointed!
The first 4 chapters, instead of any exciting action or plot set-up, have you slogging through the vaguely undefined and improbable mental problems of one of the protagonists (a former Secret Service agent, who for some unknown reason is not sleeping with her gorgeous male partner/close friend--but this is never linked to her mental/emotional issues in any way...).
When the action finally starts, it revolves around, get this--a hidden treasure from colonial days, a German POW who escaped from a US camp during WWII, and the modern-day drug-running of top-level CIA agents gone bad, plus an autistic piano-playing math whiz--all on a little cape on the Virginia coast!
The end brings even more improbable plot twists, including (I kid you not) one of the bad CIA agents trying to kill the other protagonist by thrashing him with her prosthetic leg!!!
I got through the whole audiobook by habit and/or hope that it had to get better, but I'll think twice before picking up another David Baldacci book.Get more detail about Simple Genius [UNABRIDGED CD] (Audiobook).

Alaskan Summer (Heartsong Presents #654) (Heartsong Audio Book) Order Now

Reviewed by Kelli Glesige for Reader Views (2/07)

Laurette Martel is a young woman who is working a summer job with Southeast Alaska Maritime, or SAM for short, the port agent serving the many cruise ships that come to Sitka during the summer months. Maybe spending her summer in the beautiful area will help Laurette decide what her future should hold. Laurette quickly becomes attached to her majestic surroundings and the sweet elderly woman Ruth, who she watches over and lives with. Laurette is also attracted to Ryan Nichols, a native of the area and a worker at SAM. Ryan is dealing with struggles of bitterness and has questioned his faith of late due to the death of his father and the subsequent falling to pieces of his mother. Getting on with her life, Ryan's mother has left for Chicago to begin her life anew. Ryan has been left feeling abandoned and lonely.

Everyone works together at SAM to make sure the cruise ships' occupants receive all they need when they dock in Sitka. Laurette is a natural at making the passengers in distress feel comfortable, regardless of the problem, and her compassion carries over to Ryan. The two become fast friends while working together, sharing meals, and going fishing on Ryan's boat. Laurette decides she wants to remain in Alaska after her summer job ends, but what will she do to support herself, and where will she live? All of her current arrangements will end with the summer months.

Ryan also has thoughts about what will happen at summer's end, for he does not want to lose Laurette. He must figure out how he can keep Laurette and properly take care of her needs. Ryan too loves Alaska, but his job is only temporary, and there are not that many jobs in the area. He must have more to offer Laurette if he asks her to remain in Alaska. In the past, Ryan has played the piano to make ends meet in the winter months. God cannot let him down.

"Alaskan Summer" is a very uplifting and Godly story, and those who enjoy Christian romance will not be disappointed. Its message of trusting Jesus and letting Him guide our actions when in doubt, is worthy. Ultimately, Ryan recommits himself to Jesus and learns to trust Him for guidance. "Love is behind all you do," prays Laurette. The two, with God's help, find a way when good friend Tyler receives a promotion and will be moving with his family away from the Sitka area. Laurette is offered a teaching job while Ryan is in line to step into Tyler's now vacant position.

This selection of "Alaskan Summer" is an audio book on four disks which makes it very appealing to take in the car, while exercising, or when you need to hear an encouraging story. I highly recommend "Alaskan Summer" to all ages of readers. Its message to trust in Jesus and let Him be the guide is quite encouraging.Get more detail about Alaskan Summer (Heartsong Presents #654) (Heartsong Audio Book).

Little Women Decide Now

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I aquired the audiobook version from audible and listened to it in my car with my seven year old son. I really didn't expect for him to like it and though he never seemed to pay attention to it - however he always knew what was going on and was quite upset that the ending didn't play out the way he wanted. Apparently my little 7 year old boy who revels in dirt and climbing trees is a closet romantic and expected a wedding - no matter that the characters were a bit too young to get married.

The short summary - We follow the March family, 4 dutiful daughters and their mother through the period of time that their father is away at war (I believe he's a chaplain). They befriend their neighbors and go through several trials, all learning to be better people through it all.

It doesn't sound very exciting does it? Well it's not exciting in the shootem up explosion type way - but it is very engaging and endearing. Many people argue that this book has lost it's luster since the girls spend time sewing, studying and functioning in rather "old fashioned" ways. Some have even complained of the overtly religious overtones. I personally though it was a wonderful story of four young girls learning each in their own way - that life can be hard, life can be heartbreaking, death is very real, but then so is love, friendship and joy. Some argue that Mrs. March is an unattainable visiage of a "perfect mother" however I argue that we see her only through her daughters' eyes - and that every mother is on a pedestal in the eyes of their daughters. We don't know if the moments when she is out of site, she is sobbing at her loneliness or having bouts of internal rage at the behavior of her children. She simply projects and outward calm, which most mothers attempt to keep in front of their children.

There is a certain beauty to this story, each of the girls has their own personal battle to fight within themselves and we watch as they find ways to overcome, either their envy, their vanity, their selfishness - some turn to friendship, others to prayer. I have to admit that I too had hoped for the ending that my little son wanted - even though I knew it was silly to wish for two young people to end up together, but who knows what the future holds for them after the last page of the book.

The simple fact that a little seven year old ADHD boy was able to love and care about the people in this story, and to have hopes for them - shows the power of the writing contained within. I highly recommend this book - even to those who are not into "romance" or "period literature."Get more detail about Little Women.

Youth in Revolt: Book One: The Journals of Nick Twisp Right now

C D Payne is a genious and the book takes place in areas close to where I grew up and where I currently reside, this makes the story come to life even further for me as the book encompases familiar trends and locations. Not every teenager wants to go back and relive their high school days, this is a story that does not dwell on the horrors of high school, but on the challenges of getting through those years socially and mentally. This book has been one of my favorites since I was 17 and I have reccommended countless individuals read it, my copy was so battered and well loved I bought a second one and then just recently so my husband could experiance it purchased the adio series which is very well done. You will laugh heartily, cringe on que, and gape open mouthed at the text in a rollercoaster of emotions and possible recollections of past experiances in common. Cheap Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I will not post a profound analysis of the final volume of Rowling's Harry Potter saga. I will share that like many other readers I devoured Deathly Hallows over a weekend; then reread it several times more in the weeks and months that followed. Yet I cannot give it the excellent rating that so many have bestowed, because of a single infuriating detail: the casualty roster includes a name that should not be there. A character of prodigious intellect and mighty skill--more than enough to foil the rather idiotic attack Rowling crafted. Moreover, it is *the* pivotal character I speak of: essential to the entire plot of the series. No, I cannot praise this book. I can only lament the terrible injustice that forever disenchanted me, after so much emotional investment in these books. Lesson learned.Get more detail about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Buying Chick Bowdrie Boxed Set (Louis L'Amour)

This boxed set brings together three of the best Chick Bowdrie stories:

South of Deadwood - Chick is sent to retrieve a captured leader of a deadly gang. Deadwood is way outside of Texas, and Chick must bring him back cross country. The only problem is that the rest of the gang is still at large and gunning for Chick. Louis L'Amour does an introduction on the town of Deadwood.

A Trail West - A gang has kidnapped the daughter of a Texas judge to keep him from sentencing one of their own in prison. Chick is sent to retrieve her. Or die trying! This one ends up in Arizona. Louis L'Amour does and introduction on women of the west (which was very interesting) (BTW-this one is out of print now and can only be obtained with this set).

Where Buzzards Fly - Chick is sent to investigate a big robbery that has happened in west Texas only to find that the robbers have been murdered (all fourteen of them) and the loot has vanished without a trace. Chick must trail them with his mind and his wile. Louis L'Amour does an introduction on gunfighters (some of which he had actually met).

All three dramatizations are well cast. The special effects are excellent. The audio is crisp and clear and easily understood in the noisy environment of a car. Well worth the purchase price. Run time: 180 minutes.Get more detail about Chick Bowdrie Boxed Set (Louis L'Amour).

Buy Stephenie Meyer: Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse/Breaking Dawn CD Ppk (Twilight Saga)

I love fantasy books - takes me to a place outside of my normal life. I was anti-Twilight for a while due to the teen-fantasy it has. BUT I got the box set for Christmas this year and was NOT able to put the books down! I was GLAD that I caught a cold over the holidays - gave me an excuse to not do anything but read! I managed to read all 4 books in less than 8 days. Now of course I have to start over because I am a total addict. Twilight the movie was a disappointment to me - not awful but definitely could have been better. I'm sure New Moon will be the same although I hear it's closer to the book which is a blessing.

My kids love the Berenstain Bears and I was thrilled to read that Jan and Stan Berenstain actually read the stories on this CD. But, unfortunately, after enjoying the animated voices on the TV show so much, my boys were a little disappointed with the narration on the CD. It's touching to ME to know that these are the two people who created and wrote all of these great, touching stories, but that means nothing to my small kids and they just don't like the narration. Garrison Keillor's tender and often times hilarious tales of small town life are so rich in imagery, you are at once swept up into his world and more than a little sad when it ends. I have listened to all of Keillor's Lake Wobegan stories, and this tops the list as far as I am concerned...why? Because in this, one of his first outings as storyteller, the stories are primarily intended to capture the feel of nostalgia we all long for, rather than to simply amuse as in some of his later stories, particularly those found on Life These Days and some of his later material. While those later stories also have their own appeal, the earlier stories tug at the heart in a way some of the newer ones fail do. Listening to Summer, I could almost hear the whining of that old window fan which our only relief from the hot summer sun, smell those ripe and even overripe tomatoes in mom's garden, hear the soothing sounds of the crickets at day's end as mama's calls "Supper time!" Keillor is a GENIUS at taking us back to the good old days, not just in our heads, but in the very depths of our being...once there, you never want to leave! Winter stirs in us the memory of a cold, clear night, perhaps watching at the window for a glimpse of Santa's sleigh as it streaks across the evening sky, or standing in front of a Main Street department store lit with thousands of tiny lights as animated figures dance and sing for our amusement...childhood captured in all its wonder for us to experience all over again. Spring is filled with humor and pathos, particularly Letter To Jim...in this bittersweet story, we can all relate to the feelings of unrest and longing that come to us all at some mid point in our lives, and in that moment of indecision about which road to follow, we can FEEL the tugging in both directions and are waiting for the ending and hoping it will be the one we KNOW is right. Fall is likewise beautiful, you can smell the burning wood, feel the damp chill, and see the pumpkins in our mind's eye...Thanksgiving is my personal favorite, just a heartwarming telling of family holidays spent with our 'favorite relatives'. These stories make you yearn for that simpler, more tender time..and as far as I'm concerned, the further away we get from it, the more story tellers like Keillor we need with the ability to bring us back whenever we choose to go there! Bravo, Mr. Keillor, long may you reign!Get more detail about News from Lake Wobegon.

Disney, Pixar CD Storybook (4-In-1 Disney Audio CD Storybooks) Review

My daughter loves it. She goes upstairs to peruse the book & listen to the CD stories all the time. So much better than being glued to the TV.Get more detail about Disney, Pixar CD Storybook (4-In-1 Disney Audio CD Storybooks).

I loved how the books were narrated, however Hermione's voice gets really whiny after the first 30 minutes. Understanding Islam Immediately

This audiotape has some nice content for beginners, but it takes patience to get used to the V..e..r..y s..l..o..w delivery of the author. It would have been better to let someone else do the voice over.Get more detail about Understanding Islam.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5) Best Quality

I have listened to this book several times. It's great. I love putting stories on and then doing some embroidery and sewing work while I listen. Book 5 is intense, but I have great memories of it.Get more detail about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5).

Creating Love Get it now!

This is a great way to reinforce all the great information contained in the book. Each tape is somewhat connected to the other but are devided into various aspects of relationships(work, marriage, children, etc.)that can be examined seperately as well. I've only listened to the series 4 or 5 hundred times! Bradshaw has provided a wonderful base for exploring basic human desires and needs without evangelical zeal but with basic conversational common sense.Get more detail about Creating Love.

Realizing the Power of Now Buy Now

You wouldn't want to jump off with these CD's if you are just starting to discover the Power of NOW. There are concepts Eckart discusses which are presumed to be known. This is a live seminar he is giving over multiple days. I particularly got a lot out of his long discussion and flushing out of "acceptance". He uses humor quite a bit. I have three other of this oral discussions or book readings and I didn't get any direct repetitions in these CD's. You cant go wrong with some enlightenment from Tolle. My favorite audio from him is "Practicing the Power of Now" because it is less theory and more direct tools and example. Get more detail about Realizing the Power of Now.
