Shop For Tom Clancy's Op Center: Balance of Power (Tom Clancy's Op-Center)

I can see why the Spainards hate this book. I have never been to Spain and besides Medieval history and Franco of course I don't know much about the nation beyond the norm. However, the idea of Spain turning into genocidal Balkans is just silly to me. Yes it happened in the 1930's but many things happened in the 1930's a time of insanity and hate.

Also the pyschobabble was just plain annoying to me. "She was there when Martha was killed, the guilt is going to put her into shock and paralize her!" Right and that is why whole armies stop fighting when they lose comrades. Stupid and not even close to human reality and just plain annoying to read.

I will stay away from Clancy and the techno-thriller crap. Bring back some good old cold war novels those were his master pieces. This sucks will not bother picking anymore up when I see them.Get more detail about Tom Clancy's Op Center: Balance of Power (Tom Clancy's Op-Center).

Beowulf: The Complete Story: A Drama (an audio book) Top Quality

I've read, studied, and quoted Beowulf, but I had never heard it done such a compelling fashion. The language is stirring, and the sound effects are realistic. When you hear this, you understand how this tale survived. The alliteration helped the successive narrators remember the tale and swept the audience along in the story. Great work!Get more detail about Beowulf: The Complete Story: A Drama (an audio book).

Simple Genius [UNABRIDGED CD] (Audiobook) This instant

Just finished reading _Simple Genius_ (2007) by David Baldacci, whose work I usually really enjoy, and I was so disappointed!
The first 4 chapters, instead of any exciting action or plot set-up, have you slogging through the vaguely undefined and improbable mental problems of one of the protagonists (a former Secret Service agent, who for some unknown reason is not sleeping with her gorgeous male partner/close friend--but this is never linked to her mental/emotional issues in any way...).
When the action finally starts, it revolves around, get this--a hidden treasure from colonial days, a German POW who escaped from a US camp during WWII, and the modern-day drug-running of top-level CIA agents gone bad, plus an autistic piano-playing math whiz--all on a little cape on the Virginia coast!
The end brings even more improbable plot twists, including (I kid you not) one of the bad CIA agents trying to kill the other protagonist by thrashing him with her prosthetic leg!!!
I got through the whole audiobook by habit and/or hope that it had to get better, but I'll think twice before picking up another David Baldacci book.Get more detail about Simple Genius [UNABRIDGED CD] (Audiobook).

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment Immediately

I don't think this is the greatest book I have ever read by James Patterson. It wasn't all bad. It was a little hard for me to get into it, it's just not my type of story. But I did read it and now I want to know what happens so I'm going to be reading the rest in the series.Get more detail about Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment.

Alaskan Summer (Heartsong Presents #654) (Heartsong Audio Book) Order Now

Reviewed by Kelli Glesige for Reader Views (2/07)

Laurette Martel is a young woman who is working a summer job with Southeast Alaska Maritime, or SAM for short, the port agent serving the many cruise ships that come to Sitka during the summer months. Maybe spending her summer in the beautiful area will help Laurette decide what her future should hold. Laurette quickly becomes attached to her majestic surroundings and the sweet elderly woman Ruth, who she watches over and lives with. Laurette is also attracted to Ryan Nichols, a native of the area and a worker at SAM. Ryan is dealing with struggles of bitterness and has questioned his faith of late due to the death of his father and the subsequent falling to pieces of his mother. Getting on with her life, Ryan's mother has left for Chicago to begin her life anew. Ryan has been left feeling abandoned and lonely.

Everyone works together at SAM to make sure the cruise ships' occupants receive all they need when they dock in Sitka. Laurette is a natural at making the passengers in distress feel comfortable, regardless of the problem, and her compassion carries over to Ryan. The two become fast friends while working together, sharing meals, and going fishing on Ryan's boat. Laurette decides she wants to remain in Alaska after her summer job ends, but what will she do to support herself, and where will she live? All of her current arrangements will end with the summer months.

Ryan also has thoughts about what will happen at summer's end, for he does not want to lose Laurette. He must figure out how he can keep Laurette and properly take care of her needs. Ryan too loves Alaska, but his job is only temporary, and there are not that many jobs in the area. He must have more to offer Laurette if he asks her to remain in Alaska. In the past, Ryan has played the piano to make ends meet in the winter months. God cannot let him down.

"Alaskan Summer" is a very uplifting and Godly story, and those who enjoy Christian romance will not be disappointed. Its message of trusting Jesus and letting Him guide our actions when in doubt, is worthy. Ultimately, Ryan recommits himself to Jesus and learns to trust Him for guidance. "Love is behind all you do," prays Laurette. The two, with God's help, find a way when good friend Tyler receives a promotion and will be moving with his family away from the Sitka area. Laurette is offered a teaching job while Ryan is in line to step into Tyler's now vacant position.

This selection of "Alaskan Summer" is an audio book on four disks which makes it very appealing to take in the car, while exercising, or when you need to hear an encouraging story. I highly recommend "Alaskan Summer" to all ages of readers. Its message to trust in Jesus and let Him be the guide is quite encouraging.Get more detail about Alaskan Summer (Heartsong Presents #654) (Heartsong Audio Book).

Little Women Decide Now

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I aquired the audiobook version from audible and listened to it in my car with my seven year old son. I really didn't expect for him to like it and though he never seemed to pay attention to it - however he always knew what was going on and was quite upset that the ending didn't play out the way he wanted. Apparently my little 7 year old boy who revels in dirt and climbing trees is a closet romantic and expected a wedding - no matter that the characters were a bit too young to get married.

The short summary - We follow the March family, 4 dutiful daughters and their mother through the period of time that their father is away at war (I believe he's a chaplain). They befriend their neighbors and go through several trials, all learning to be better people through it all.

It doesn't sound very exciting does it? Well it's not exciting in the shootem up explosion type way - but it is very engaging and endearing. Many people argue that this book has lost it's luster since the girls spend time sewing, studying and functioning in rather "old fashioned" ways. Some have even complained of the overtly religious overtones. I personally though it was a wonderful story of four young girls learning each in their own way - that life can be hard, life can be heartbreaking, death is very real, but then so is love, friendship and joy. Some argue that Mrs. March is an unattainable visiage of a "perfect mother" however I argue that we see her only through her daughters' eyes - and that every mother is on a pedestal in the eyes of their daughters. We don't know if the moments when she is out of site, she is sobbing at her loneliness or having bouts of internal rage at the behavior of her children. She simply projects and outward calm, which most mothers attempt to keep in front of their children.

There is a certain beauty to this story, each of the girls has their own personal battle to fight within themselves and we watch as they find ways to overcome, either their envy, their vanity, their selfishness - some turn to friendship, others to prayer. I have to admit that I too had hoped for the ending that my little son wanted - even though I knew it was silly to wish for two young people to end up together, but who knows what the future holds for them after the last page of the book.

The simple fact that a little seven year old ADHD boy was able to love and care about the people in this story, and to have hopes for them - shows the power of the writing contained within. I highly recommend this book - even to those who are not into "romance" or "period literature."Get more detail about Little Women.

Youth in Revolt: Book One: The Journals of Nick Twisp Right now

C D Payne is a genious and the book takes place in areas close to where I grew up and where I currently reside, this makes the story come to life even further for me as the book encompases familiar trends and locations. Not every teenager wants to go back and relive their high school days, this is a story that does not dwell on the horrors of high school, but on the challenges of getting through those years socially and mentally. This book has been one of my favorites since I was 17 and I have reccommended countless individuals read it, my copy was so battered and well loved I bought a second one and then just recently so my husband could experiance it purchased the adio series which is very well done. You will laugh heartily, cringe on que, and gape open mouthed at the text in a rollercoaster of emotions and possible recollections of past experiances in common. Buy this book, read this book, and laugh, the economy and state of the world may be getting you down, but this book will lift you up!Get more detail about Youth in Revolt: Book One: The Journals of Nick Twisp.

Cheapest The Book of Investing Wisdom: Classic Writings by Great Stock-Pickers and Legends of Wall Street (Wiley Audio)

This book is a collection of investment wisdom from Wall Street legends such as Warren Buffett, Philip Fisher, Peter Lynch, and even Donald Trump. These people are extremely successful at what they do, and to have access to their advice is just priceless.

Even though I can identify more with Warren Buffett's and Philip Fisher's investment philosophies, I enjoyed reading about others such as Martin E. Zweig who talked about short selling. I highly recommend this book to serious investors. Even if you do not have an investment philosophy, read this book, and maybe you will be inspired by one of them.

Cheap Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

I will not post a profound analysis of the final volume of Rowling's Harry Potter saga. I will share that like many other readers I devoured Deathly Hallows over a weekend; then reread it several times more in the weeks and months that followed. Yet I cannot give it the excellent rating that so many have bestowed, because of a single infuriating detail: the casualty roster includes a name that should not be there. A character of prodigious intellect and mighty skill--more than enough to foil the rather idiotic attack Rowling crafted. Moreover, it is *the* pivotal character I speak of: essential to the entire plot of the series. No, I cannot praise this book. I can only lament the terrible injustice that forever disenchanted me, after so much emotional investment in these books. Lesson learned.Get more detail about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Buying Chick Bowdrie Boxed Set (Louis L'Amour)

This boxed set brings together three of the best Chick Bowdrie stories:

South of Deadwood - Chick is sent to retrieve a captured leader of a deadly gang. Deadwood is way outside of Texas, and Chick must bring him back cross country. The only problem is that the rest of the gang is still at large and gunning for Chick. Louis L'Amour does an introduction on the town of Deadwood.

A Trail West - A gang has kidnapped the daughter of a Texas judge to keep him from sentencing one of their own in prison. Chick is sent to retrieve her. Or die trying! This one ends up in Arizona. Louis L'Amour does and introduction on women of the west (which was very interesting) (BTW-this one is out of print now and can only be obtained with this set).

Where Buzzards Fly - Chick is sent to investigate a big robbery that has happened in west Texas only to find that the robbers have been murdered (all fourteen of them) and the loot has vanished without a trace. Chick must trail them with his mind and his wile. Louis L'Amour does an introduction on gunfighters (some of which he had actually met).

All three dramatizations are well cast. The special effects are excellent. The audio is crisp and clear and easily understood in the noisy environment of a car. Well worth the purchase price. Run time: 180 minutes.Get more detail about Chick Bowdrie Boxed Set (Louis L'Amour).

Buy Stephenie Meyer: Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse/Breaking Dawn CD Ppk (Twilight Saga)

I love fantasy books - takes me to a place outside of my normal life. I was anti-Twilight for a while due to the teen-fantasy it has. BUT I got the box set for Christmas this year and was NOT able to put the books down! I was GLAD that I caught a cold over the holidays - gave me an excuse to not do anything but read! I managed to read all 4 books in less than 8 days. Now of course I have to start over because I am a total addict. Twilight the movie was a disappointment to me - not awful but definitely could have been better. I'm sure New Moon will be the same although I hear it's closer to the book which is a blessing.
Stephanie Meyer is an amazing author - thank you so much for giving me inspiration!Get more detail about Stephenie Meyer: Twilight/New Moon/Eclipse/Breaking Dawn CD Ppk (Twilight Saga).

Where To Buy The Berenstain Bears CD Holiday Audio Collection

My kids love the Berenstain Bears and I was thrilled to read that Jan and Stan Berenstain actually read the stories on this CD. But, unfortunately, after enjoying the animated voices on the TV show so much, my boys were a little disappointed with the narration on the CD. It's touching to ME to know that these are the two people who created and wrote all of these great, touching stories, but that means nothing to my small kids and they just don't like the narration. It is a little flat compared to the voices on the TV show. Otherwise the stories are fantastic!Get more detail about The Berenstain Bears CD Holiday Audio Collection.

News from Lake Wobegon

Garrison Keillor's tender and often times hilarious tales of small town life are so rich in imagery, you are at once swept up into his world and more than a little sad when it ends. I have listened to all of Keillor's Lake Wobegan stories, and this tops the list as far as I am concerned...why? Because in this, one of his first outings as storyteller, the stories are primarily intended to capture the feel of nostalgia we all long for, rather than to simply amuse as in some of his later stories, particularly those found on Life These Days and some of his later material. While those later stories also have their own appeal, the earlier stories tug at the heart in a way some of the newer ones fail do. Listening to Summer, I could almost hear the whining of that old window fan which our only relief from the hot summer sun, smell those ripe and even overripe tomatoes in mom's garden, hear the soothing sounds of the crickets at day's end as mama's calls "Supper time!" Keillor is a GENIUS at taking us back to the good old days, not just in our heads, but in the very depths of our being...once there, you never want to leave! Winter stirs in us the memory of a cold, clear night, perhaps watching at the window for a glimpse of Santa's sleigh as it streaks across the evening sky, or standing in front of a Main Street department store lit with thousands of tiny lights as animated figures dance and sing for our amusement...childhood captured in all its wonder for us to experience all over again. Spring is filled with humor and pathos, particularly Letter To Jim...in this bittersweet story, we can all relate to the feelings of unrest and longing that come to us all at some mid point in our lives, and in that moment of indecision about which road to follow, we can FEEL the tugging in both directions and are waiting for the ending and hoping it will be the one we KNOW is right. Fall is likewise beautiful, you can smell the burning wood, feel the damp chill, and see the pumpkins in our mind's eye...Thanksgiving is my personal favorite, just a heartwarming telling of family holidays spent with our 'favorite relatives'. These stories make you yearn for that simpler, more tender time..and as far as I'm concerned, the further away we get from it, the more story tellers like Keillor we need with the ability to bring us back whenever we choose to go there! Bravo, Mr. Keillor, long may you reign!Get more detail about News from Lake Wobegon.
